O Gabinete de Estratégia e Planeamento do Ministério do Trabalho, Solidariedade e Segurança Social (GEP/MTSSS) produz estatísticas oficiais, no âmbito da delegação de competências do Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE).

A resposta aos inquéritos quando solicitada pelo GEP é obrigatória ao abrigo do n.º 1 do artigo 4.º da Lei do Sistema Estatístico Nacional (Lei n.º 22/2008, de 13 de maio).

Esta obrigatoriedade somente se aplica às entidades que integram a amostra dos inquéritos, sendo neste caso solicitadas para o efeito, através do envio de uma circular.
